Bona Abrasives – October Grind Fest 2025

Bona Abrasives – October Grind Fest 2025

It’s October Grind Fest time again, and this year I’m excited to highlight the Bona abrasive system, simple, smart, and built for real contractors. With the latest Bona Flexi Sander V3 (FlexiSand 1.9), Bona has designed a range of abrasives, Platinum Ceramic, Green Ceramic, and Diamond Mesh that make sanding sequences easy to follow, depending on the finish you’re aiming for.
One thing standing out is their Bona Speed System, especially useful for getting a flawless matt lacquer finish in fewer steps. And of course, all through October, you’ll get 5% off all Bona abrasives as part of Grind Fest 2025. Let’s walk through each system and finish with precision.

The Bona Speed System

This sequence’s ideal for low-gloss finishes like Matt, Extra Matt, or Ultra Matt (especially from Bona’s Mega and Traffic ranges). It’s streamlined, consistent, and works every time:
Coarse: Use Platinum Ceramic 50 grit on the Power Drive with the Flexi Sander. This cuts back existing finishes fast and cleanly.
Intermediate: Switch to Green Ceramic 80 grit, still using the Power Drive to smooth away the 50-grit scratches.
Fine: Finish with Net Alox or Diamond Mesh 100-grit discs. This gives you that effortlessly smooth surface ready for a matt look.
A tip worth noting: Bona recommends using the Quattro Disc for that final sanding stage for the ultimate finish. If you don’t have one, the Power Drive still works, but investing in the Quattro is worth it if you're serious about following the Bona system fully.

The Bona Standard System

For premium gloss finishes, unpigmented oils, or hardwax oils, this sequence takes it up a notch:
Coarse: Platinum Ceramic 50 grit on the Power Drive for quick removal.
Intermediate: Green Ceramic 60-grit wipes out 50-grit marks.
Intermediate: Green Ceramic 100 grit removes the lines from the 60 grit step.
Fine: Finish off with Net Alox or Diamond Mesh 120 grit, crisp, glossy, flawless finish every time.

The Bona Colour System

This is for high-gloss finishes and pigmented color oils where every scratch shows. Follow this sequence and avoid swirl marks like the pros:
Coarse: Platinum Ceramic 50 grit on the Power Drive.
Intermediate: Green Ceramic 60 grit to clear 50-grit scratches.
Intermediate: Green Ceramic 80 grit for the next layer of smooth.
Intermediate: Green Ceramic or Net Alox 100 grit to flatten out the 80 grit lines.
Fine: Diamond Mesh 120 grit to deliver that perfect scratch-free finish ideal for rich colours.
We’ve been using these in the field, and the 50 grit Diamond Plate hits the sweet spot:
Cuts through stubborn coatings and sticky build-ups effortlessly.
Lasts longer, stays sharp, saves you both discs and time.
Available in 30, 50, and 70 grit, but the 50 grit is the best all-rounder.
If your jobs are chewing up standard discs, this is your answer.

The Speed, Standard, or Colour systems or building up with Diamond Plates, Bona abrasives are designed to make your life on site easier. And with October Grind Fest 2025, you’ve got 5% off across the entire range.
